inputs there are two USB-A ports, composite, headphone and AV sockets, an optical connection and an Ethernet jack. Step down in quality just a little with a 4K stream via Netflix and the fundamental story is the same. The Roku does a fine job of upscaling 1080p content to 4K without too much noise but 720p sources and below can look pretty messy, with a noticeable degree of blooming around objects.

Black tones are decently deep and avoid crushing well – if there’s detail in the darkest scenes, the Hisense will at the very least allude to it. There are many more besides, and it’s a strength that puts Roku TVs ahead of other competing budget sets (even Hisense’s own models). If the item was originally delivered by Initial City Link / DPD / Specialist courier, Electrical-Deals will arrange a FOC collection at your choice of UK Mainland address. Given some native 4K content, and consequently the best opportunity to shine, the Hisense is capable of genuinely impressive results.Sound is provided by two downward-firing 'racetrack' (meaning: oval) drivers, each driven by eight watts of power.

The TV struggles to convey the action scenes in Tenet with much dynamism, and while there’s decent detail and clarity, impact sounds lack punch. An extension lead does not always supply the TV with sufficient power, so the TV may not be able to turn on fully if connected this way. So the A7200 covers only HLG and HDR10 HDR standards – there’s no Dolby Vision or HDR10+ here, which is a bit of a shame, because the limited brightness of budget TVs means they really benefit from Dolby Vision in particular. With 500+ movies and 300+ TV shows, from timeless classics to new originals – Disney++ has something for everyone. With some HDR-assisted content delivered by a 4K Blu-ray player, the Hisense really makes the most of its specification. This TV still has a VA-type LCD panel that uses direct LED lighting without local dimming, as is the case for many cheap LCD TVs on the market. Because Hisense likes to tailor its screens to the specific market in which they’re for sale, there’s no direct comparison to be made for the American or Australian markets.

And I can’t not mention Roku’s own streaming app, The Roku Channel, which has an ever-growing list of free content (with ads) to watch. If purchasing an indoor aerial, we would recommend checking the distance from the transmitter as aerials will have a different range specified on the product box.

The close-ups of faces are revealing in terms of fine detail and, again, the Hisense 50A7200GTUK Roku TV pleases in terms of colour accuracy, too, taking a natural, balanced approach. No matter what mode you’re in, you’ll have to deal with a considerable amount of motion blur at times, since there are no motion-smoothing features on the Roku.

There’s no form of motion/MEMC control on this Hisense Roku TV, but it handles motion well enough with sports/motorsports, so distracting artifacts are kept to a minimum. If anything makes the A7200G look like a budget-conscious option, it’s the unglamorous depth of its cabinet. Well, I can tell you now that it’s not worth upgrading to the Hisense Roku TV (2021) if you already own last year’s model.Watching a Blu-ray of The Favourite, colours looked spot on – nuanced and lifelike in appearance – and the detail brought out in the period costuming and production design was consistently good. HDR10 - makes whites brighter, intensifies colour and enhances the overall picture for an epic cinematic effect. The latest Roku TV from Hisense was never going to achieve HDR mastery, and if that’s what you’re after then you’re going to have to up your budget. I’ve appreciated Roku’s platform agnostic sensibilities, and it’s good to see the feature list expand with the Hisense Roku A7200G.
