The storyline is on fire starting on page one and doesn't relent until the very last word five hundred plus pages later. SIDENOTE: A majority teeny little part of me wishes my kids were little enough I could traumatize them for life with this snapchat app. I am not averse to some swearing, especially when used well, but the constant repetition of a certain swear word had me cringing. Whilst he is meant to be sympathetic and innocent, it was hard to feel involvement with a character that isn’t as well-delineated as the other figures are.

He spent most of the book mentally belittling and mocking the people he was interviewing for believing in this paranormal stuff. Documentary about a haunted cult is an intriguing premise, and Nevill comes up with some satisfyingly creepy smells and sounds and scenarios with his Blood Friends in the first half, but this is at least 100 pages too long; everything unsettling built to a crescendo that I ended up skimming because I was so tired after yet another plane ride for Kyle leading to yet another long exposition about the cult's atrocities. However, besides the ending (which didn't suck but I feel fell short of the mark) this was a great read.

I have finally surrendered to the fact that I just cannot and will not read any more of Apartment 16.and your right to a certain extent, i just feel a lack of real closure to a story i feel was well rounded and well told. I think this one gif would pretty much sum up how I feel about this book but I'm going to spoiler it so I don't traumatize the 'not so jaded' people on my friends list. It must be said that, aside from the two main characters, Kyle’s colleague Dan (who plays an important part) is left quite underdeveloped.
