I know that many, many Readers are going to have a lot of fun with this, so please don't let my disappointment sway you from picking it up if it sounds interesting to you. Jayne has her own issues she has been hiding since she left her job in army intelligence, and perhaps doesn’t know Mark as well as she thinks she does.

The Long Weekend: Life in the English Country House 1918-1939

Here is the society decorator Sibyl Colefax, burning rosemary on saucers so that her Chelsea villa might smell enticing to guests she hoped to bag as clients; here is the future Edward VIII doing his needlepoint on a low modern sofa at the newly remodelled Fort Belvedere in Windsor Great Park; and here is Edwin Lutyens worrying about Castle Drogo in Devon, the modern yet timelessly solid place he is building for the tea importer Julius Drewe. I’m referring to the Jamie Fraser aka Outlander reference LOL), to moments that emotionally challenge you, all beautifully blended into a tale of friendship and growth. Ebooks fulfilled through Glose cannot be printed, downloaded as PDF, or read in other digital readers (like Kindle or Nook). From the beautiful avenues of Champs Elysees in Paris to the charming canals that labyrinth through Venice , the continent is full of fairytale destinations. Ten years on from their last get together we follow the ups and downs of friendships and relationships across the decades. You have to give your full attention whilst reading as you don't always know whose speaking and there is no chapters. The characters are portrayed so vibrantly they sing from the pages creating a kaleidoscope of colourful people swirling in front of you as you read with each heartbreaking journey laid bare before you. The note attached to the gift, claims that one of their husbands will be murdered that night, and with 📵 no cell service, the roads impassable due to the weather, and the dementia of their host John, causing additional confusion…the women must survive the night before they learn the fate of their spouses. This is acknowledged precisely once but then Kats pseudo suicide attempt gets Kat all the attention and love and care she was whining about not having from her friends (because Kats behavior is awful and she's lucky her friends didn't drop her till she went to rehab).

You'd witness tension and romance and sexy encounters in this house with the spectacular view, and there would be lots of booze and lots of food. A fast paced read with an unreliable narrator and a weekend getaway with friends, what could go wrong?Dark and intense, this is a tale of obsession overlaid with a menacing atmosphere as the sinister plot slowly unfurls.

The Long Weekend: Life in the English Country House, 1918 The Long Weekend: Life in the English Country House, 1918

Not a single likable or interesting character, each behaves more over-the-top than the next and all are just a bunch of boorish drama queens overreacting to just about everything. How much you enjoy the book will also depend on your tolerance for those staple gimmicks of the suspense genre meant to keep us guessing, like referring to characters by pronouns alone and stuffing every page with red herrings. We meet these three women who only know each other because their husbands are friends, off on a weekend retreat.I was engrossed by the four character perspectives and their diverse stories, secrets and thoughts as well as the use of past and present timelines.
