On the night Tom Brenner and his nine-year-old son Leo visit theSeven Peaks theme park, they head straight for the ghost house. It always amazes me how authors manage to not only invent new stories for long-running characters but also keep the books fresh, Tim Weaver is an artist at that!Expertly plotted and executed this book, as with the rest in the series, grabs you from the start and doesn’t let you go. Now Rebekah has started to receive condolence cards from her mother – or are they from someone else entirely? Now, haunted by years of unanswered questions, Rebekah asks missing persons investigator David Raker to find out what happened. There are two cameras inside the ride: one is about a minute in; the second one is right at the end, prior to the exit. I finished it with a huge sense of gratitude that it is a series and that it will not be the last I will be meeting the brilliant, driven, astute yet beautifully flawed David Raker.

I like Raker and his approach to investigating makes for a decent read, I’m just not sure there was a strong enough appeal for me to want to read the previous books. The writing is superb with plenty of action to keep you on your toes and a very complex, clever plot. It’s dark inside the ghost house but we find out afterwards that the staff member was alerted to the phone because it was ringing, the screen blinking on and off. I’m a big David Raker fan and have read all of this authors previous books about as well as a stand alone which introduced Rebekah as a character. Family ties are at the heart of much that happens in this book, with love, loyalty and trust taking vital supporting roles. It has a cleverly written complex plot where the two stories of each disappearance seemly interlock together, that keeps you wanting more.
